Sotavento - Matas Blancas

Back to location finder

General details:

This is a small, pebbly "beach" which is useful if it's off it's head at the World Cup site. If it's force 8 at Los Gorriones, it'll be nearer force 6 here: This beach is just North of Costa Calma - the ever growing resort - which itself is a couple of kms North of Los Gorriones.

Wind here is offshore and pretty gusty.

No waves. Water is flat as a pancake.

Directions to the right place:

Heading S along the coast road towards Sotavento, drive past Tarajalejo, La Lajita (with its camels, zoo & a fantastic cactus garden) and the old derelict Matas Blanca restaurant. At or just before the roundabout for La Pared, turn L off the road onto a track. You'll see the beach from the main road.

It's difficult to be precise about exactly where the track turns off from the main road - it used to be before the roundabout, is currently on the roundabout, but it looks like the routing of the main road is about to change (as in Jul 2003).

None.

Excellent and inexpensive supermarket in nearby Tarajalejo (EuroSPAR).

Costa Calma is very close by with whatever attractions it holds!

Pubs and eateries

I'm sure there are a couple of restaurants & bars in Tarajalejo, but I've never tried them. Probably worth trying.
