Really interesting to see the difference in sail sizes at different venues. Here at Minehead, we were overpowered on 4.5's on Saturday.
Today we were on the same kit, and again in the end 4.2's would have been better. We did have some waves though. feeling a little beaten up;)

Cheers,

James.

I haven't sailed since Dahab in January and have begun to get itchy feet. Sold my 75 Quad fin (probably a great board, but not really my thing) and bought an RRD FSW 96 for those lighter wind days in the channel. Beginning to plan the crossing to Wales, but having trouble finding an appropriate resc...

If you travel an addition half an hour you could sail at Minehead. That's where we're based. We normally only sail on westerly or north westerly, but have sailed easterly before. We always sail on an outgoing tide, but on an incoming tide you can start further down the coast and broad reach down. Th...

Just watched the video. The guy the camera is following has got a pretty interesting stance; practically no arm bend at all. In fact whilst I'm being an armchair critic (bearing in mind I've just come out of the stone age of sailing myself), there seems to be a lot sailor with bad set-up; either arm...

Would have loved to, but it's a two hour drive. Tomorrow doesn't look bad either.

We would definitely have stayed if we'd had bigger kit. I'm now scouring the classified looking for cheap bigger sails and a 100ltr+ board. Having never been to Hamworthy, we were really impressed with the venue. It must be awesome blasting across to the other side on a windy summers day. Hopefully ...

James and Richard - nice to meet you, and sounds as though you had quite a full on session only a little way up the road! Likewise. Yes we had a great session. Really good to be out somewhere else for a change. I was also surprised at how warm it was. Maybe the correct term would be how 'not cold.'...

Glad the wind picked up for you guys. Things didn't look promising when we left around lunchtime, so we headed the scenic route over to Weymouth with plans to check out the harbour. Not knowing the area, we came on to the see front and parked in a really busy car park which I now realise was Overcom...

Ok, I guess I'm going to Hamworthy then. Wherever that is :)

Should be there mid a.m. Do you guys meet somewhere specific?

Will try to make if if the forecast holds. What time are you guys going to be there?

Well I can say without doubt that Minehead on a southerly doesn't really work. Very gusty with big gaps in the wind. diagonal chop but very flat on the inside. Got a few good runs on a 5.5 with a 100 litre slalom board. However, I can honestly say that I will never sail in that direct at home ever e...

We're going to try Minehead on an incoming tide (am) tomorrow. Maybe. Never attempted this wind direction, so it could be a lifeboat job;-0
Anyway, 18 mph S should logically work.
If I'm stupid enough to attempt it. I'll let you all know.

I'm up for a sail this weekend. I was hoping yesterday was going to be good (18 NW) but the storms messed it up.
Has anyone got a concrete plan yet?

Cheers,

James.

Sounds great, the winds were a bit mental on Thursday so I imagine it must have calmed down a little. The New Waves custom sounds cool too, so 'old skool' it must be 'pre skool'. I suppose the extra weight helps keep it on the water in nuclear winds too. :D I used to sail it a lot when I was younge...

Friday 7th Minehead

Haven't posted for a while, but Minehead's been pretty good over the last couple of months. We sailed from the golf course end on Thursday, but it was very gusty and not much happening on the inside. On Friday we returned and had one of the best sails of the year. The shorebreak was a PITA but once ...
