109 Watersports Portland

Positive news. Ventured to Portland today only to spend a frustrating morning watching the kites as the wind came tantalisingly close to making a 6.5m usable. The good news is that Callum Edge has returned to his roots and bought the former Windtek premises so hopefully spares and new windsurf kit w...

Re: RIP Windsurfers World

Relatively hot on the heels of Windtek at Portland too. Being a retailer myself have always tried to support both but probably a combination shrinking volumes and web.

Saturday 26th

Not sure that I can break out of my Portland comfort zone but suspect that a very early start will be required wherever anyone goes, given that the forecast will attract sailors and sun worshippers. High tide Portland 10.30am would be an added bonus! :P

Portland 17th April

Great afternoon at Portland. It paid to watch the skies as the squalls could double the windspeed in minutes. Checked out the data this morning and noted that the wind strength was hovering around 20 knots around 2 to 3pm but there was a gust of 49 knots around 4.30pm!!

Portland Easter Monday

Yikes, that was pretty chilly! Arrived early and managed about 40 minutes before head and hands got too painful. Forgot hat. Doh! Fortunately staying in East Devon so not far to drive. Great to get on the water after too many months off. When it's that cold, you certainly try to make dry gybes %-(

Big Sunday - Portland

Sunday still looking good. Personally I favour an early start. Breakfast at Ferrybridge at 8.30'ish??
Would be nice to put some faces to names.

Sunday & Monday

Hi Sue,you're absolutely right. I spend far too long pondering weekend weather. As far as Weston is concerned, I'm ashamed to admit that I have only sailed there twice but living between Bath & Frome, it actually takes quite a while to drive to Weston and, only having a car not a van, the sand s...

Sunday & Monday

I keep looking at XC weather & windguru. The latter doesn't suggest quite such extreme as XC weather. The tides are lows in the afternoons but not extreme. The only other slight problem is that it does get quite busy at the weekend as they seem to allow campers to park there overnight (Ferrybrid...
