Cwm Carn Sat

Martin 'storm trooper' Farrimond and I went for a potter around Cwm Carn, late Saturday afternoon. It was delightful, with the setting sun throwing shafts of light through the trees. At times they also completely blinded you, which injected a little excitement into the ride. I was chuffed to complet...

A wonderful evening and cracking ride. I arrived a little stressed out, after tackling Bristol’s Friday night traffic mayhem. However, all my anxieties just drifted away as the evening progressed. The only downside was feeling a little on the delicate side the morning after. The going was wet to sog...

Wed 10th

I skived off work for a wonderful afternoon at Weston A delightfully warm day at just over 20C, which was very different from last Sunday's 14C It was blowing a Southerly, which is inevitably a gusty direction. I opted for a 5.8 and the Hawk 93, which was a great choice for most of the time. Ian K r...

Sun 7th

I was a little unsure about how much wind I would find, as the lower wind guru forecast was around 11 knots. When I arrived it was a little chilly, but still thought it extreme that one of the first guys on the water was putting on a balaclava. ( maybe there was a connection with the lost tre...

Hi, Hugh has broadly answered your question and you will find a thread under Refresher Lessons near Bristol, in the Locations section of this forum. There's some information on locations and renting. If you buy sufficiently cheaply then you will be able to sell the board on again, providing it is in...

Note: I have used spaces in two words because Spelling Cow bounces my messages otherwise I missed the last Gap ride and had been looking forward to this one and I even borrowed a saddle specially for the occasion. As I had had problems with chain suck on the last ride, I serviced the drive chain. Bi...

A good one. Thanks Rob for not getting us lost and to Jemma, Paul, Vicky, Steve and Viv (& Kirsty) for your company and good humour. The day felt like a Trek reunion party. So much noo kit. Although I have been keen to do this ride for some time I was feeling a little apprehensive as to how my body ...

I feel better now, it was gusting F8 at Cardiff and at St Athen. T8) This was the wind we were receiving. Lulsgate was a modest F7 probably because it is further inland.

Sorry I missed you Liddlerich, sounds painful

Thinking of going to Ogmore on Saturday. Any takers?

Kelvin, is this a good choice (given your posting about Newton, earlier in July)?

I think it should read "I Conrad, chief of the Catalonian airforce, will appear out of nowhere and burn you off the water when you are not concentrating"

Would love to do the ride. However, the forecast is looking windy, so I will make a late decision.

Just replaced my Shimano BB. They lasted 4 years and are the only bearings (& drivetrain), other than the headset, that I have not replaced.

A blustery old day at WSM. The stats suggest it was blowing a F6 gusting F7. However, it definitely felt like gale/F8 to me. It was one of those days which separated those who knew what they were doing from those that did not. Judging by my swim time, I am definitely in the latter group. A number of...

The stats for Lulsgate show that the gusts (squalls?) were at the top end of a F6/bottom end of a F7. Doesn't sound very much on screen
