How do I get a broken batten tip out of the batten pocket

Post by Ian Long »

I have the final inch or so of a batten broken off in the bottom of a batten pocket and am struggling for ideas on how to get it out.

Anyone got any (useful) suggestions before I start unstitching it?

I've got one of those long springy things with jaws down the middle for picking up small things in tight places, that cost a quid at a tool sale. I can not remember how long it is probably about 3 foot, but they may do longer versions. I don't know if the jaws would be strong enough, but there may be something more substantial.

how about simply unstitching the luff tube & pulling the batten end out that way? You'll probably find you can't pull it backwards anyway because of all the broken fibres.
It's an ill wind that never blows at all.
