I've got one of those long springy things with jaws down the middle for picking up small things in tight places, that cost a quid at a tool sale. I can not remember how long it is probably about 3 foot, but they may do longer versions. I don't know if the jaws would be strong enough, but there may be something more substantial.
how about simply unstitching the luff tube & pulling the batten end out that way? You'll probably find you can't pull it backwards anyway because of all the broken fibres.
