weekend 22/23 Oct ... and Mon 24 Oct :-)

What Nomadic events are coming up. Also, if anyone's planning a non-Nomadically-arranged trip and/or looking for others to join in.

Looks to be some wind around - but don't think the forecasts have settled yet.

So where is best in a Southerly (if it stays that) for this w/e?

Must admit .. Portland, Monday is looking tasty 8) ... in a E/SE :D :D

Looks like Oxwich might be OK in a S'ly if you can get out of the wind shadow caused by the Point, either by going upwind far enough or sailing further east in the bay. Sunday now looking more SE'ly, stronger but damper. Likely to be packed with kiters too, based on our last visit there. (Sorry Adrian.)

I'm up for a sail this weekend. I was hoping yesterday was going to be good (18 NW) but the storms messed it up.
Has anyone got a concrete plan yet?

Cheers,

James.

Portland

Post by Simon H »

I'm hoping to get a sail in Sunday, probably Portland for the afternoon although agree a southerly is not good as the Isle of Portland creates a wind shadow. Met office has the high winds on Sunday but Wind Guru has Monday so will be watching closely tomorrow....
Air temp of 18'c, 25+ knots...the last blast of summer 2011?

I sooo wish I'd booked Monday off work post holiday! It looks great. Quite looking forward to sailing in cold water for a change! :)

Hi Justin
Forces of Nature reckons it does - but I would have thought there would be a large wind shadow from the land mass on RHS of the beach (ie to the S). Maybe Sunday looks to be a better bet with a SE?

Anyone decided on plans? I'm undecided!!

Currently thinking of Axbridge or WSM tomorrow (depends on strength of wind, as it would need to be quite a strong southerly for Axbridge to work). Did have a really good sail at WSM last year in a S - made quite a change from the usual conditions.

Sunday - undecided! I would be tempted by Portland, but it looks to be quite Southerly. Monday is far better for Portland - nice strong SE.

Sunday at Portland looks quite good now on the updated Met Office B site - more SE than forecast earlier. Plus Oxwich looks OK.

Just how are we supposed to make our minds up when the forecasts can't make up theirs   !

It's OK - I'll just carry on wittering to myself !

Going to check out Oxwich tomorrow.
Maybe Aberavon Sunday if forecast stays SE - never sailed there either :) .

Racked with indecision here. Half tempted by Oxwich as there's more wind out west but maybe too southerly, in which case Aberavon might be better, and closer. Or take a chance on WSM as the minimum travel but less wind option. :???:

I'm probably not bothering with today now - as forecasts (BBC anyway) downgraded round here. Save myself for tomorrow - which looks mega windy. Portland is tempting me for tomorrow with 30mph SSE/ SE and SUN :P 8)

Axbridge could also be OK tomorrow - and Oxwich looks good, but v windy ...

We're going to try Minehead on an incoming tide (am) tomorrow. Maybe. Never attempted this wind direction, so it could be a lifeboat job;-0
Anyway, 18 mph S should logically work.
If I'm stupid enough to attempt it. I'll let you all know.

Cheers,

James.
