Post by Brian D »

As well as the Around the World for a fiver event Richard also passed on The date for Windy world Demo Days for 2005

Saturday 14th May at Axbridge reservoir

Sunday 15th May At Weston Beach.

More details to follow later - but if you fancy a try of the latest kit - then pencil in these dates and start worshipping the wind gods.

Looks like the second day clashes with a Nomads trip to Lepe.

Anyone with experience like to tell me how these Demo Days work. Can you just turn up an try any peice of shinny new kit for free, or are there any fees? Do you have to pretend your going to buy the stuff, or are they happy for you to be looking for future reference?

These days try to be informal because it makes everyone's life so much easier.

The idea is that you get 10-15 minutes on a piece of kit that you may hope to buy - there is no cost or obligation.

However on a day that it is blowing its socks off, all the little kit is going to be in high demand and visa versa which will make trying the board you desperately want to could be a tricky exercise.

My top tips for a successful demo day are as follows:

1.) If you are geniunly interested in a piece of kit, let the Neil or Richard know beforehand so that they can a. make sure they bring it down and b. try to co-ordinate everything so that you actually get to try it.

2.) Take your own kit, so that when you are trying a new board, you are using a rig you are familiar with and visa versa when trying a new rig.

3.) Don't hang on to the kit for too long - there is probably a queue of other people who would also like to try it.

4.) On demo days Neil and Rich have their hands full trying to satisfy the demands of a large number of people while suffering the frustration of not been able to sail themselves. Make it as easy as possible for them to help you and they probably will.
If found, please return to the pub.

Demo day's

Its's a nice feature of the sport that the Shops truly dont mind if you are just there to try without any definine intent of buying in the near future. But best to be aware that its fairly chaotic and a bit strange for a first timer. Unless you know them The shops reps (in this case usually Neil and Richard) look much the same as the other'guy's milling around the collection of boards and sails. You have to seek them out to arrange a borrow and sail of the availiable kit (either ask or observe). it's usually a first come first served basis, the arrangement is usually just let them know you are taking the kit, Then when its availiable, grab it and go off and sail. They dont usually ask for names adresses deposits on anything like that just go out and enjoy youself. Of course as Ian say's in his posting be aware that the most popular kit will be the ones that best suit the conditions of the day and the better the forcast the more windy boys will turn up. But Don't be bashfull just get stuck in.
