Tenby

General details:

We're talking S beach here. This is a long, soft, sandy, SE-facing beach shelving a little more steeply than other beaches in the area so the sea doesn't go out as far. Again, never sailed here (I bottled out 'cos it was too cold - 7 degrees). Others in the club had a challenging time: Some good waves in the E wind, and possible to blast over to Caldey Island.

Directions to the right place:

Head west along the M4 until it becomes A48, follow that until it becomes the A40 at Carmarthen. Follow the A40 then take the A477 at St Clears or the A478 at Narberth, to Tenby. As you drop down into Tenby, turn R - off the A478, towards Penally. However, where the A4139 branches off to Penally, keep straight ahead, under the railway bridge, then turn R following signs for the beach.

Hazards:

Anon contributor - Apr '06 says...

I noticed a storm drain/outfall - submerged/exposed at the far northern, town end of the beach. Not sure if it discharges un/treated sewage in storms or just rain water run off. Multimap aerial photo shows a slight plume.

Facilities:

There's a large car park leading down to the beach. Again, as this is a holiday resort, I guess it fills up pretty early on summer & on bank hols.

I think there's are toilets on the car park.

Pubs and eateries

Tenby - as a town - is a tourist resort & thus of little interest to me personally, though obviously this is a draw for many. Consequently, I don't know any pubs, restaurants or cafes, but there are bound to be plenty. Check WhatPub.com for real ale pubs.
