Carve Tacks

Still in the footstraps, start carving progressively up into the wind.

Tighten the carve as you get closer to the wind.

As the nose starts to bounce, move out and slightly forward of the footstraps to keep the front of the board down.

Still moving out of the footstraps and carving hard, raking the sail back. Keep the front elbow pointing down to maintain mast foot pressure.

Move the front hand to the mast below the boom and keep your weight very low.

Wrap the front foot round the mast, keeping the rig at arms length to ensure plenty of room to move round the front.

Keep very low while preparing to move round.

Just before you go through the wind, move the back hand round onto the new side of the boom.

With the new front hand in place, move the back foot round, then using the new front hand, throw the mast forward.

With hands in new sailing postion, complete the turn by pushing the nose round with the front foot while bearing away with the sail, staying low for balance and to absorb the power.

Continue pushing round and bearing away.

Start moving your weight back to the normal sailing position as the board comes round.

Moving back towards a normal sailing position.

Applying mast foot pressure to start the board planing.

Hook in and move into the footstraps as you begin to power up.

Sail away and celebrate.
